Infant class size appeals
By law, infant classes (reception to year 2) must have a maximum of 30 pupils. If the school has already reached its maximum class size, they will normally have to refuse any further applications.
However, you may be able to appeal the refusal if there are exceptional circumstances why your child should be offered a place. The appeal panel will consider the following factors when making their decision:
- Whether the school has applied its admission policy correctly.
- Whether the decision to refuse a place was unreasonable.
If you are refused a place at a Knowsley primary school, the admission authority of the school can clarify the type of appeal it will be (prejudice or class size).
