Make a Housing Benefit claim

Most people should make a claim for Universal Credit instead of Housing Benefit. Only certain groups of people are entitled to Housing Benefit, including people of state pension age.

To apply for housing benefit, you must complete an online application form. The form can also be used to claim council tax reduction.

The application is in two parts. The first is a calculator, which can give you an idea of what you may be entitled to, and the second part allows you to make a claim.

Provide your supporting documents online or using the self-service stations in any of our Knowsley libraries until you receive your benefit decision notice. When you have received your benefit decision notice, you can register for My Account, allowing you to view your claim online and upload documents.
