Helen's story
Helen Baggaley, Principal Human Resources Manager (Workforce Development) has worked at Knowsley Council since October 2023. Helen had previously worked at another local authority before joining Knowsley Council.
We asked Helen a few questions about her role and why she wanted to work at Knowsley Council.
Here’s what she said . . . .
What does your job involve/ what does a typical day look like?
My role involves supporting staff training, development, talent development and promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion across the workplace. In addition, I develop programmes to encourage people to want to work at the Council by offering development opportunities through apprenticeships and Graduate entry. Every day is different and I get to work with a wide range of staff and services which I really enjoy.
What is it like working in the HR team?
My team are passionate, committed and work really hard. We are always looking for new and improved ways of doing things based on feedback from customers and best practice in the field. Me and my team are friendly, approachable and honest.
Why did you want to work for Knowsley Council?
I wanted to work for Knowsley Council to make a difference to the local community and help support staff within the workplace to fulfil their potential. I knew Knowsley Council had ambitious plans for the future which excited me and I wanted to play a part in this.
What do you enjoy most about working for Knowsley Council?
The staff – they are so welcoming, supportive and friendly. Everyone who I meet is passionate and positive – all wanting to make Knowsley Council an even better place to work and the Borough a better place to live, work or visit.
Why would you recommend working for Knowsley Council?
You are genuinely making a huge difference to residents and local communities from either supporting them directly in a front-facing role or indirectly by providing support to a front-facing service or role. The Council provides so many services and has a great range of benefits and I would recommend it as a great place to work which embraces ideas and innovation as well as being future focused. There are challenges working in local government but it’s exciting to work with such a brilliant group of people to overcome these.
