Who will own my data once I submit it
Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC) will own the data, but participants have the right to withdraw their data at any time.
Why do you need my information?
This year the KMBC Black and Minority Workers group are looking at developing a project merging Black History Month with Knowsley’s fifty (50) years celebrations. Our aim is to interview four black families that have been resident in Knowsley over the fifty years. We aim to interview one family from each of the townships of Knowsley.

This year's theme for Black History Month is “Reclaiming Narratives,” and marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture, by raising awareness through story telling. Each one hour interview will be based on questions relating to the theme of Reclaiming Narratives and living in Knowsley.
What Personal Information do we process?
In order for Knowsley to create a resource such as the “Here for Good” film we may collect all, or some, of the following information from you:
- Videos and audio of you.
- Name (forename and surname).
- Opinions.
- Location (township).
- Address.
- Ethnicity.
What allows you to use my information?
Personal data
The personal data of those who volunteer to take part in this campaign will be processed under the lawful basis of Article 6(1)(a) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), which states that the individual has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specified purposes.
This lawful basis relates to the recording of the footage and sharing your personal information with the Council appointed videographer, adding the video and audio recording to KMBC’s internal intranet, and adding he video and audio recording to the Council’s social media channels.
When archiving the video footage for historical research purposes KMBC will process personal information using Article 6(1)(e) of the UK GDPR, which states that processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest. This lawful basis relates to the archiving of your personal information, including the video and audio recording, for historical research purposes.
Special category personal data
Special category personal data is personal data that is deemed to need more protection and includes information such as ethnicity.
Special category personal data will be processed using the following lawful bases that are available under the UK GDPR:
- Article 9(2)(a), which states that the individual has given explicit consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specified purposes. This lawful basis relates to the recording of the footage and sharing your personal information with the Council appointed videographer, adding the video and audio recording to KMBC’s internal intranet, and adding he video and audio recording to the Council’s social media channels.
- Article 9(2)(j), which states that processing is necessary for archiving purposes in the public interest or historical research purposes. The relevant lawful condition under the Data Protection Act 2018 is Schedule 1, Part 1, Paragraph 4, Research etc. This lawful basis relates to any personal information that is shared for archiving and historical research purposes.
Who will my information be shared with?
This data will be shared with the public via Knowsley Council’s social media platforms. These include:
- YouTube.
- Facebook.
- Instagram.
- LinkedIn.
- X / Twitter.
- Bertha.
- Knowsley News.
Do I have to provide this information and what will happen if I don’t?
Residents are volunteering this data and have the right to withdraw their consent at any stage. .Residents can contact the Organisational Development Team via Organisational.DevelopmentTeam@knowsley.gov.uk to withdraw their consent. There will be no consequences if residents choose to no longer be involved in the project.
If residents do not wish for their personal data to be archived or used for historical research purposes they can contact the Organisational Development Team, and we will consider their objection.
How long will you keep this data for and why?
The personal data will be processed on the Council intranet site and social media feeds for a period of 12 months before being removed. For information that is retained for archiving purposes this information will be retained in line with the Council’s Records Management Policy and Retention Schedule.
How will my information be stored?
The video will be uploaded to the council’s social media feeds, YouTube channel and then embedded into the Council’s internal intranet (Bertha).
It will be publicly available on our social media feeds and YouTube channel until it is removed. As the video will be uploaded to the Council’s YouTube channel your personal information will be processed by YouTube. YouTube are owned by Google and their Privacy Notice can be accessed here.
Please be aware that once the video is made available via YouTube and our social media feeds this will be accessible via internet searches and, if copies are made of the video by internet users, it may remain accessible via the internet even after the Council have removed the video from our YouTube channel and social media feeds.
Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?
No
Will my data be transferred abroad and why?
No data will be purposely transferred abroad. However, as the video/ photos and quotes will be made public they can be viewed by anyone anywhere.
What rights do I have when it comes to my data?
Under the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018/ UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the following rights with regards to your personal data: -
- The right to subject access – you have the right to see a copy of the personal data that the council holds about you and find out what it is used for.
- The right to rectification – you have the right to ask the council to correct or remove any inaccurate data that we hold about you.
- The right to erasure (right to be forgotten) you have the right to ask the council to remove data that we hold about you
- The right to restriction – you have the right to ask for your information to be restricted (locked down) on council systems
- The right to data portability – you have the right to ask for your data to be transferred back to you or to a new provider at your request.
- The right to object – you have the right to ask the council to stop using your personal data or to stop sending you marketing information, or complain about how your data is used
- The right to prevent automated decision making – you have the right to ask the council to stop using your data to make automated decisions about you or to stop profiling your behaviour (where applicable)
