Who will own my data once I submit it?

Why do you need my information?

  • To deliver the customer services required, such as logging complaints, queries or compliments
  • To provide information and advice regarding council services
  • To oversee the Council’s online portals for the provision of services such as bin collections

What allows you to use my information?

We rely on your consent to collect and use your information.

There may be times when information is used in the legitimate interests of the council and it may also be shared without your consent for crime and disorder purposes if required.

We are required to collect data in order to fulfil legal obligations and official public tasks as a public authority, provided for within Articles 6 and 9 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and to deal effectively with your query.

If you ring our Contact Centre on 0151 489 6000, we inform you that your call is being recorded. Our calls are recorded for staff training and quality purposes.

If you would prefer for your telephone call not to be recorded, please advise our Customer Service Advisor at the point that they answer your call and they will facilitate an Opt-out request.

Who will my information be shared with?

Where necessary, and depending upon the nature of your question or complaint, your data may be shared with: -

  • Relevant Council services that will handle your question or complaint
  • HMRC
  • Police Forces
  • Health Agencies
  • Other local authorities
  • Statutory Regulators such as the Information Commissioner’s Office or the Local government Ombudsman
  • Council service providers such as Tarmac

We may use your data for other purposes if it is lawful to do so.

Do I have to provide this information and what will happen If I don’t?

Information is provided with your consent. You have the choice to not provide this information and to change your mind at any time. However, many services cannot be provided without your information being used.

How long will you keep this data for?

Complaints information will be kept for seven years. Other information may be kept for different time periods.

All telephone calls made to our Contact Centre which are recorded are securely stored for a period of 6 months and then they are automatically deleted by our telephone service provider, Netcall.

How will my information be stored?

Your information will be stored on secure council systems and will only be accessed on a need to know basis.

Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?

No

Will my data be transferred abroad?

No
