Report a concern about an adult at risk
Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. It is about people and organisations working together to prevent or stop abuse and neglect, while at the same time making sure that the adult’s wellbeing is promoted taking into consideration their views, wishes, feelings and beliefs.
Safeguarding adults applies to people who are:
- 18 years old or over
- Have care and support needs (whether or not the Council is meeting any of those needs)
- Is experiencing, or is at risk of, abuse or neglect, and
- As a result of those needs, is unable to protect himself or herself against the abuse or neglect or the risk of it
Abuse and neglect can occur anywhere. It can be physical, sexual, psychological, financial or material, discriminatory, organisational, or domestic abuse, and includes modern slavery, neglect and self-neglect.
If you have any concerns about an adult (for example if you think they are being abused or neglected), report it to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub on 0151 443 2600 (or ring 999 in an emergency).
Further information about safeguarding adults, including the signs to look out for, can be found on both the Council’s website and the Knowsley Safeguarding Adults Board website.
