Transport

Knowsley is located directly on the motorway network meaning car users have easy access to everything the borough and the region has to offer.

For many people we know that public transport is an important way of getting around in an affordable and sustainable, using buses and trains to get to work, education, visit family or to get about in their leisure time.

Public transport in Knowsley is overseen by Merseytravel and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The Council works closely with them and providers to ensure the needs of our communities are taken into consideration when planning routes and services.

The Mayor of the Liverpool City Region has tasked Merseytravel and the Combined Authority with delivering a London-style integrated transport network for the people of Knowsley.  This means a comprehensive and affordable, easy to understand, high quality public transport system that people can rely on.  We then need to make it a success by residents using public transport as much as possible, rather than private cars, in order to make Knowsley move better and reduce the impact of harmful emissions.

The responsibility for public transport lies with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority who are funded through a council tax levy.  They look at transport from a regional perspective, recognising that people not only want and need to travel within Knowsley, but across our wider region.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority work in collaboration with Knowsley Council as the organisation responsible for the highways, transport operators including Arriva, Stagecoach, Merseyrail and Northern Rail, and other partners such as Network Rail to coordinate the delivery of transport services and deliver improvements and investments to the network.
