Crime and Communities Team
In 2019, Knowsley Council invested more than £1.2 million to establish Knowsley’s Crime and Communities team – a dedicated multi-agency team working to identify and address the causes of crime and anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods.
The team was created by the Council in direct response to feedback from residents that tackling crime and anti-social behaviour was a top priority.
A lot of work has been done to improve feelings of safety in Knowsley since the Crime and Communities team was established in 2019. In the last year, the Crime and Communities team has:-
- Walked more than 520 miles of the borough’s streets to engage with residents, providing a visible deterrent and reassuring presence.
- Visited more than 5,000 households to engage with residents about issues impacting on them.
- Completed 250 “Walkabout Wednesdays” across the borough, targeting specific areas and issues identified by communities, providing a reassuring presence, visible deterrent and gathering community intelligence.
- Arranged regular “Talkabout Tuesday” events in prominent locations such as supermarkets and shopping areas to discuss issues that matter to local residents.
- Gathered community intelligence and improved confidence within the community that they are being listened to and their issues are being addressed.
The investment into this team has also funded a quad bike, enabling Merseyside Police to directly respond to incidents of anti-social behaviour, particularly in parks and green spaces
