How the Council help you downsize if your needs have changed
There is a shortage of affordable housing in Knowsley, particularly for larger families.
As part of our Housing Strategy, and in response to the social housing crisis, Knowsley Council are committed to facilitating under-occupying social tenants to move to accommodation which better meets their housing need, and therefore free up properties for larger households.
Find out if you're eligible
The scheme is currently open to Knowsley social housing tenants who meet the following criteria:
- Are under-occupying either a three or four-bedroom social property by at least one bedroom.
- Have been a social housing tenant for at least 1 year.
- Must have an assessed band A or band B housing need and an active Property Pool Plus application.
- Must be prepared to downsize by at least one bedroom.
- The move must not result in overcrowding.
Social housing tenants interested in the scheme who meet all of the above criteria except bullet point 3, will be provided with advice and assistance on how to make an active Property Pool Plus application and be assessed for their banding allowing them to bid on suitable properties.
Rightsizing incentives
Eligible households may be entitled to:
- An initial cash incentive for downsizing by one bedroom, plus the potential for additional cash incentives for each bedroom released.
- A grant payment toward the cost of moving assistance and van rental.
- A discretionary redecoration and refurbishment voucher.
- Assistance to overcome any other legitimate barriers to moving.
