Who we are and what we do
Our constitution
Here you can find out the framework and rules for governing the council.
The constitution sets out:
- how Knowsley Council operates
- how decisions are made
- the procedures that have to be followed to ensure that these decisions are made in an open, transparent and accountable way
Our democratic structure
Here you can find out how the council is organised.
The council is made up of locally elected councillors who make decisions on how to improve Knowsley services on behalf of Knowsley people. The way in which councillors make decisions can be sometimes informed by the ideas of the political parties they belong to. The Mayor is chosen by the council and is the borough's first citizen and representative. The Leader of Knowsley Council is appointed by the council and leads the council's cabinet.
This is the structure of Knowsley Council, where you will find structures for:
- Full Council
- Cabinet
- Overview and Scrutiny Committees
- Regulatory and other committees
- Other partnerships - such as the Health and Wellbeing Board, Knowsley Better Together Board, Knowsley Children and Families Board and the Knowsley Schools Forum
