The Halewood Investment Masterplan to deliver £30m of investment over the coming years includes improvements to walking and cycling routes across Halewood.
The proposals include improvements along Leathers Lane, Roseheath Drive, Barncroft Road and Hillingden Avenue.
Under the proposals, Leathers Lane will benefit from improved public realm works, including safer pedestrian and cycling links to Grace Park, which is to be transformed into a high-quality multi-use park.
What is proposed?
Leathers Lane
- A new parallel crossing (for cyclists and pedestrians) will be installed near to the junction with Roseheath Drive.
- A raised table will reduce the speeds of motorised traffic on both approaches to the crossing.
- A short section of the footpath at the junction with Beechwood Avenue will be widened to accommodate a shared-use footway, improving cyclists' safety.
Cyclist Road Markings
- Proposed cyclist route road markings on Woodland Road, Oakwood Road, Beechwood Avenue, Roseheath Drive, Barn Croft Road and Hillingden Avenue.
Roseheath Drive and Barncroft Road
- Installation of double-speed cushions on Roseheath Drive and Barncroft Road.
- Installation of a raised table will be introduced on Barncroft Road at the junction with Hillingden Avenue.
- The speed limit of these, and adjacent, roads will be reduced to 20mph.
Hillingden Avenue
- Bollards will be installed near the junction with Kenton Road to restrict traffic and provide a quieter, safer route for cyclists and pedestrians travelling from Halewood Leisure Centre to Halewood Shopping Centre.
Wood Road
- An off-road cycleway is proposed allowing cyclists to travel in both directions along
Wood Road running from Higher Road to the proposed shared use path that will go
through Grace Park to Leathers Lane. - Two signalised crossings will be installed on Wood Road - one outside Yew Tree Primary
School, near the junction with The Avenue, and another between Pendleton Green
and Wenlock Drive. - Two new raised tables will also be installed, one on The Avenue junction with Wood
Road and another on Pendleton Green junction with Wood Road to improve
pedestrian safety. - Three parking bays will be constructed outside Grace Park.
- Double yellow lines will be installed to ensure parking or waiting is prohibited at all
times ensuring that the footway and proposed cycleway is not obstructed by parked
vehicles.
When would works take place?
The proposed works would commence in January 2025 and would be scheduled to be completed in February 2025, lasting approximately one month.
