Support for victims

Physical abuse can be a terrifying and isolating experience. But you are not alone. There is help available. If you are experiencing physical abuse, it is important to seek support from a trusted friend, family member, or professional. If you are in immediate danger please call the police.

Barriers to seeking help

There are a number of reasons why victims of physical abuse may not reach out for help. These barriers can include

Fear of the abuser

Victims may be afraid of what the abuser will do if they find out that they are seeking help.

Shame and guilt

Victims may feel ashamed or guilty about what is happening to them. They may think that they deserve the abuse or that they are doing something wrong.

Lack of trust

Victims may not trust that anyone can help them, or they may be afraid of being judged.

Financial barriers

Victims may not have the financial resources to leave the abuser or to pay for support services.

Lack of awareness

Victims may not be aware that there is help available, or they may not know where to turn.
