Domestic servitude
Domestic servitude is a type of forced labour that takes place in a private home. People may be promised a job, but when they arrive, they find themselves trapped and forced to work long hours for little or no pay. They may be threatened with violence or punishment to themselves or their families if they try to leave.
Signs of domestic servitude
Some signs that someone may be a victim of domestic servitude include
- They are not allowed to leave the house or have visitors.
- They are forced to work long hours in poor conditions.
- They are not paid for their work, or are paid very little.
- They have physical injuries or signs of abuse.
- They are afraid to talk about their situation.
