Young carers are children and young people who look after someone in their family who has an illness, a disability, or is affected by mental ill-health or substance misuse.
Young carers often take on caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult. This can have an impact on their physical and mental health, as well as their education and social life.
Help for young carers
Knowsley Young Carers can access the 'Me Time' programme which is a session for local young carers to take a break from caring for family members. The session runs Monday to Friday from Our Place and will provide opportunities to get involved in new and exciting activities such as, BMX riding, trampolining, water sports and horse riding. Cultural trips such as visiting theatres and the cinema or taking part in more mainstream sports such as football, netball etc. Or you can just come and chill with your friends and the youth workers.
The team will offer drop in sessions every week on Monday and Wednesday from 4 - 7pm at Our Place (and Kirkby in the near future) were you can come along, to do some homework, surf the internet or just have some 'Me Time'.
To get involved, please contact Mick Spinks or Jen Nelson at Our Place on 0151 443 5323 or via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
