We recommend that you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit because it is the quickest, easiest and safest way to pay your council tax bill.
Setting up a Direct allows you to
- Choose from four dates each month of when you can pay - 1st, 5th, 15th or 24th
- Extend your payments over 12 months instead of the usual 10
- Pay us automatically, avoiding reminders.
How to set up a direct debit
To set up a Direct Debit, you will need to log in or create an online My account and provide your Council Tax account reference number (as shown on your Council Tax bill), bank account number, and sort code.
Change the date of your Direct Debit
If you want to change the date of your Direct Debit, you can do this by logging into your online My Account.
Direct debits can be set up for 1st, 5th, 15th or 24th of the month.
Change your bank details.
To change the bank details on your existing Direct Debit, you can do this by logging into your online My Account.
Please allow at least 16 clear days for your new or amended Direct Debit to be processed by your bank. This means your first payment might not be collected until the following month. You may need to make your initial payment by another method.
If you've already set up a Direct Debit
You do not need to tell us each year if you are currently paying your Council Tax by Direct Debit. We will continue to take Debit Debits until you tell us otherwise.
