The Scrap Metal Dealers Act came into force on 1st October 2013. All dealers must apply for a licence under this act.
Licences available
Site licences
- Allow you to trade as a scrap metal dealer at any site, or multiple sites, within the Borough of Knowsley.
- Are also required if you use a premise in the course of carrying on business as a scrap metal dealer, even if you don't keep metal there.
- If you also want to trade in another local authority, you will need to apply for a licence from them too.
Collector's licences
- Allow you to trade as a mobile collector and sell or dispose of metal within the Borough of Knowsley. This includes the sale and disposal of salvageable parts from motor vehicles.
- You cannot hold a site licence and a collector's licence within the same local authority area. However, you can apply for a site licence with one local authority and a collector's licence with another.
